Background:
|
Since 2007, the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and the President of the State Board of Education have emphasized the importance of teaching character education to our students by declaring the month of October “Character Education Month.” Each local Board of Education is asked to approve a Character Education Resolution recognizing the month of October as Character Education Month.

Resolution No. 010-23/24 has been prepared for our Board to approve and endorse Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD) staff and students, along with our community, in observing Character Education Month. This year, our District will continue to foster Character Education through our implementation of the LVJUSD Framework for Success. Under the umbrella of our framework, we offer Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for all students, using three broad areas in which to organize the support: 1) Academic support; 2) Positive Behavioral Interventions & Support (PBIS); and 3) Social-emotional learning (SEL). Our SEL Curriculum, Choose Love (Jesse Lewis), has four tenets that truly bring our Character Education to a deeper level by cultivating courage, gratitude, forgiveness, and compassion in action. Through PBIS, our schools are developing School Rules and Positive Acknowledgement Systems that encourage students to be responsible, respectful, safe and ready to learn. In addition to this, LVJUSD will continue to focus on Digital Citizenship through character education, providing students opportunities to learn how to use technology to support their learning and to make responsible and respectful decisions with technology at school and in their community.
