Quick Summary / Abstract:
Background: The Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD) is committed to developing courses that provide students with a wide-range of opportunities to prepare students to “contribute and thrive in a changing world.” Our Board of Education encourages creating new courses and updating courses that are engaging to our students and prepare them for success in the 21st Century. These new courses include the California State Standards and support students in their pursuit of college and career readiness.

The staff at Granada High School (GHS) continues to work with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Coordinators to identify course offerings and opportunities to uphold the integrity and objectives of the Diploma Programme. The content and coursework for the Diploma Programme is clearly defined and must be adhered to in order to ensure the site maintains IB Status.
Status As we strive to remain competitive in meeting student and parent requests for rigorous college preparatory coursework, career technical education, and elective opportunities that will prepare students for multiple options beyond high school, we collaborate closely with high school teachers and administrators to keep our courses current and new courses prepared for Board approval.

In an effort to continue to ensure content reflects current standards and is relevant and applicable, the following new courses are being presented for consideration and approval.

New Courses:

IB Music HL I A/B
IB Music HL II A/B

IB Music HL I A/B

IB Music HL I is Year 1 of the 2-year IB Music HL course. In this course, students and teachers will engage in a journey of imagination and discovery through partnership and collaboration. Students will develop and affirm their unique musical identities while expanding and refining their musicianship. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to explore music in varied and sometimes unfamiliar contexts. By experimenting with music, students will gain hands-on experience while honing musical skills. Through realizing and presenting samples of their musical work with others, students will also learn to communicate critical and artistic intentions and purpose. As students develop as young musicians, the course challenges them to engage practically with music as researchers, performers and creators, and to be driven by their unique passions and interests while also broadening their musical and artistic perspectives.

IB Music HL II A/B

IB Music HL II is Year 2 of the 2-year IB Music HL course. In this course, students and teachers will continue on a journey of imagination and discovery through partnership and collaboration. Students will develop and affirm their unique musical identities while expanding and refining their musicianship. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to explore music in varied and sometimes unfamiliar contexts. By experimenting with music, students will gain hands-on experience while honing musical skills. Through realizing and presenting samples of their musical work with others, students will also learn to communicate critical and artistic intentions and purpose. As students develop as young musicians, the course challenges them to engage practically with music as researchers, performers and creators, and to be driven by their unique passions and interests while also broadening their musical and artistic perspectives.
Fiscal Impact Instructional materials will be purchased from our District-established Instructional Materials budget using Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) and Lottery funds.
