Background:
|
The Title VI Indian Education Grant funds activities and programs to meet the academic and cultural needs of the American Indian and Alaskan Native students in the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD). The program provides after-school and summer activities, focused on developing students’ positive self-esteem, and promoting individual and group identity.
The objectives of the continuing program are:
• Providing educational activities for American Indian and Alaskan Native students throughout the year, including enrichment classes and opportunities, and weekend activities.
• Providing tutoring for American Indian and Alaskan Native students at least once each week, during the school year, as needed.

Status
:

Our District is the lead member of a consortium of districts, including Pleasanton, Dublin, and Castro Valley Unified School Districts, that will be participating in the 2022/2023 Title VI program. The funds from Title VI will be used to provide services to the 382 identified American Indian and Alaskan Native students within the Consortium.

Fiscal Impact
:

There is no impact to the General Fund. Funding is received from the United States Department of Education, Office of Indian Education. The estimated grant allocation for the 2022/2023 school year is $106,120.
