Background: After serving 34+ years in public education, 23 years with the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD) and 12 of those years as our Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Bowers recently announced her plans to retire. Dr. Bowers' longevity of service has provided a level of stability that has allowed our District to flourish, governance team relations to strengthen, innovative academic and career technical programs and opportunities to be developed and implemented, staff and community relations to solidify, and fiscal solvency to be ensured.

Over the last few years, at Board direction, Dr. Bowers has engaged in succession planning with our Board to ensure a strong bench of committed, invested, experienced, and skilled leaders to provide continuity of stable leadership in the event of transition. Throughout these years, it has been of utmost importance to attract, develop, cultivate and retain talented leaders with expertise and demonstrated strong commitment to our District's mission and established core values.
Status To assist in the Superintendent selection process, Boards typically engage with a reputable search firm. Leadership Associates, is a highly regarding search firm for for executive leadership positions, specializing in working with school districts. The Leadership Associates Team is able and available to facilitate an accelerated pre-screening of the most viable internal candidate, and guide and assist our Board in conducting an in-depth interview, selection, and goal-setting process in order to have a new Superintendent in place for the start of the 2022-2023 academic year, with allowance for some time for crossover transition and training.
Fiscal Impact Costs associated with the proposed Leadership Associates contract are estimated at $8,000 and would be covered by the General Fund. (See Agenda Item 11.16)
