Attendance Summary Report 20-21 final.pdf
Quick Summary / Abstract: Achievement begins with attendance. Maximizing our children’s achievement must begin with daily school attendance and we are confident that with everyone working together, we can create that success. It is vital for the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD) to build on a shared value of education by maintaining the essential partnership between school and home to ensure daily attendance. By focusing on attendance, we aim to engage students to increase their success.
Background: Student achievement is not only associated with, but also highly correlated to attendance. Whether the absence is excused or unexcused, each missed minute negatively impacts a student's academic performance. Consequently, increasing the number of days a student attends classroom instruction will lead to higher grades, improved test scores and student success.
Status Throughout the year, our District staff gathers attendance data, analyzes it carefully, identifies areas of strength and weakness, and develops a plan to address the areas in which we note our greatest challenges. While the plan is often modified throughout the year, our ongoing commitment is to provide the support necessary to ensure that each student will attend school on a regular basis. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent closing of schools in March 2020 created additional challenges in maintaining the bonds between students and school connections that often influence school attendance.
Fiscal Impact Funding for schools is tied to Average Daily Attendance (ADA), so there is a financial component associated with improved attendance, as well as a learning component.
