Quick Summary / Abstract:
Background: Our District (LVJUSD) has applied for and received Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education funds for over 20 years. The Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act (Perkins IV) was reauthorized in 2018 as the Strengthening Career and Technical Education Act for the 21st Century (Perkins V). The purpose of Perkins V is to develop more fully the academic knowledge and technical and employability skills of secondary and post-secondary students enrolled in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. As part of the application process, each Local Educational Agency (LEA) desiring to participate in the Perkins funding for CTE programs must submit an application that includes annual program and progress evaluations, progress made toward goals identified in the Local Plan, identification of CTE Program of Study and Sequence of Courses, and projected budget expenditures.

The LEA must also have a District Career Technical Education (CTE) Advisory Committee consisting of a diverse and representative team including a Board member, District administrators, site administrators, teachers, student support staff, community members, business partners, representatives of institutions of higher education, and Regional Occupational Program (ROP) among others, who are continually involved in efforts to serve and empower our students. The CTE Advisory Committee upholds the mission outlined in the District-approved Local Plan for Career Technical Education. Our District will provide CTE opportunities and associated activities for students by establishing a sequential, articulated application of globally recognized career education and preparation standards.
Status Since the CTE Plan was initially approved, the composition of LVJUSD's CTE Advisory Committee remains similar, yet the members change each year due to our District's needs and changes in personnel.
Fiscal Impact There is no impact to the General Fund. The estimated allocation for the Carl D. Perkins Grant for 2021-22 is $62,120.00
