Quick Summary / Abstract:
Background: The ASES (After School Education and Safety) program, also known as the BELIEVES (Broadens and Enriches Lives, Instills Educational Values, Encourages Students) after-school program has been in operation for 1st through 5th-grade students since February 2007. At both Marylin Avenue Elementary and Junction K-8 Schools, the program provides homework assistance, literacy support, academic enrichment, and a daily nutritional meal all while providing a safe, productive location for students. In addition, services will be expanded to offer these program options to students in transitional kindergarten, kindergarten, and sixth grade beginning August 2022. Additionally, the program will now be offered during the before and after school time. This afterschool program is funded through the ASES grant and will also be supported by Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-Program) funds.
Status Our District appreciates the successful collaborative partnership with Livermore Area Recreation and Park District (LARPD), which began in the 2008/2009 school year, and offers students extended learning opportunities in the after-school time. LARPD provides staff, training, and supervision to maintain the needed ratios of one adult to ten students for transitional kindergarten and kindergarten and one adult to twenty student ratio for students in grades one through six. Our District will continue to coordinate the program from the organizational and academic perspective and manage the grant, which includes completing and filing biannual State reports.
Fiscal Impact There is no impact to the General Fund. All costs associated with the ASES program are paid through grant and categorical funds.
